District Pool League, 2004

The Redhill & Reigate Open took place at Dorking Football Club on Sunday
18th July, with players travelling from all over the south east to take part.

The first event to be completed was the ladies open with former Surrey
Ladies player Sarah 'Sass' Long beating the in form current county player
Sarah Smith by 5 frames to 1.

In the open event, current R&R league number one ranked player Ollie
O'Boyle went out early to eventual finalist and London County player John
'Johnny Cuel' Kelly. The number two ranked player, Simon Bywater, went out
in the first round to the recent Surrey Open winner, Danny 'Golden' Evans.
Other Reigate interleague players also found the going tough with Nick
Pool, Seb Pereda, Gareth Ball and David Whitehouse all going out in the
first round.

The competition progressed to the semi finals with current Surrey Classic
champion, Graf Bishop beating Darren 'Eyebrows' Baker 4-2, whilst John
Kelly continued to impress beating Francois 'Rasfas' Tertullien 4-1.

The plate event final was completed next with Danny Evans taking the spoils
with a 3-1 win over Daniel Brown.

The final of the Open event between Graf Bishop and John Kelly was a
closely fought affair and at 2-2 it looked like it could go either way but
Graf raised his game to take the next and carve out a 4-2 lead. In the next
frame John looked favourite early on but a positional error let Graf in
with two and he cleared the table to take the match 5-2 and become Redhill
& Reigate Open Champion 2004.
